91ԭƬ comment on the DfE response to the STRB (August 2024)

“It is good to see that the STRB recognises that teacher wellbeing and workload, alongside pay, are important influences on the teacher labour market and significantly impacts recruitment and retention.
A pay award of 5.5% is an essential first step in the reversal of the real terms pay cuts inflicted upon teachers and school leaders under the previous 10 Conservative Education Secretaries .
Clearly, there is still some way to go to restore the 14% that teachers and school leaders have lost since 2010 and 91ԭƬ would expect this to be addressed in future pay rounds. This announcement by the Labour Government is a welcome signal to the profession of a new direction in education. The Government’s commitment to additional investment to fund this pay award will be welcome news to school leaders who are juggling overstretched budgets resulting from years of funding cuts.”
