Please note – 91ԭƬ uses the terms ‘deafness’ and ‘deaf’ and not ‘hearing loss’ or ‘hearing impairment’ in its publications as these latter terms are not usually welcomed by deaf people. 91ԭƬ urges members and colleagues to adopt the same terminology when referring to the children and young people with whom they work. 91ԭƬ acknowledges that we do not have any specific influence on how Local Authorities or schools use terminology related to hearing. However, 91ԭƬ would request advertisers to consider the use of the terms ‘deafness’ and ‘deaf’  in their adverts.
