Time Commitment

 

Highly variable throughout the year (averaging 0.5 days per week). This may include some commitment during school holidays, as required.

Ìý

Meetings: in person or virtual –

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Steering group (SG) x 4 per year

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Contribution to National Executive Council (NEC) meetings x 4 per year

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Annual General Meeting x 1

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Others by agreement with Steering Group members about Association Business

If the postholder has been unable to contribute to the work of 91ԭƬ or to attend a meeting of either SG or NEC/or a meeting related to the role for a continuing period of up to 6 months, beginning with the date of the appointment to/renewal of role, SG will consider appointment of a replacement postholder, to ensure the efficient continuation of 91ԭƬ’s work, following consultation with the post holder.

Main purposes of role

 

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Key representative working with government departments and partner agencies in discussions relating to sign language and education provision

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Representing the views of deaf professionals in discussions with policy makers

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Promoting accessibility for all 91ԭƬ activities

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Enhance links between 91ԭƬ and a range of networks representing the diverse deaf community

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Strategic development of 91ԭƬ’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity principles

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý 91ԭƬ has experienced and qualifiedÌý representation in UK-wide stakeholder meetings related to role.Ìý This includes representation in meetings within departments of education, health and social care, and voluntarily sector

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Consultation responses are fully informed by liaison officer and 91ԭƬ members, by direct liaison with deaf member groups

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý The role of 91ԭƬ and QToDs in working with the diverse needs of deaf CYP and their families is more clearly articulated

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý The relationship between 91ԭƬ and the Deaf community is strengthened, to support more effective joint working and promote future information sharing and partnership working

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý A Deaf culture module will be created, piloted and evaluated to inform potential future delivery

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý 91ԭƬ SG and NEC have up to date understanding of good practice/ key issues in this area

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý 91ԭƬ policies reflect good practice across the UK

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý All those representing 91ԭƬ as representatives of the Deaf communities will have a good understanding of the role of 91ԭƬ and will have a clear brief for the meeting

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý A clear transition process to cover future requirements at the end of the fixed term period

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý The professional knowledge and experience of the post holder is extended

 

Responsible for staff/equipment No line management responsibility but identification of representation of deaf members at meetings as applicable

Honorarium £5000 per year

Skills and knowledge ·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý 91ԭƬ full member

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Significant and recent experience as a 91ԭƬ NEC member

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Ideally Deaf and BSL user/bilingual user

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Experience of representing diversity, inclusion and equity principles

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Experience of nurturing and modelling a culture of equity and inclusion

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Knowledge and understanding of UK wide context for legislation and wider aspects related to deaf education

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Active member of local and national deaf communities

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Ability to attend 4 x Steering group, 4x NEC, AGM and engage as a steering group officer

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Recent experience in the role of a QToD across the age ranges

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Understanding of the range of educational settings for deaf CYP and family profiles

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Excellent organisational skills, writing ability, and communication skills

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work and liaise with a range of professionals

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Confident with a host of IT and accessibility platforms

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Experience of representing 91ԭƬ at a range of stakeholder meetings and national events
