Honorary President Role descriptionÌý

Role title: Honorary PresidentÌýÌý

Tenure:Ìý

  • 6 years in total: elected for 2 years as President Elect, 2 years as President and 2 years as Past President.ÌýÌýÌý
  • Entitled to remain on National Executive Council (NEC) for a further two years ex-officio (optional)Ìý
  • Notice period – to allow the Association time to appoint a replacement, six months notice is requiredÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý

Time commitment:

ÌýAttendance at meetings in person or virtual:Ìý

  • NEC x 4 per year Ìý
  • Steering group x 4 per year Ìý
  • AGM once per year Ìý
  • others by agreement with Steering Group with regard to Association BusinessÌý

Time commitment as necessary, in addition to meetings detailed aboveÌý

  • The President will be expected to attend some meetings, conferences, functions etc in the Presidential role in normal work time.Ìý
  • Attendance at the FEAPDA Congress in role as President.ÌýÌý

Time commitment requires weekly commitments in particular around term time (approx. 3 hours a week)Ìý

 

Main purposes of role:Ìý

The Honorary President shall be responsible forÌýÌý

  • ensuring the overall smooth and efficient running of the Association under the guidance of Steering GroupÌý
  • overseeing the creation, communication and implementation of the Development PlanÌýÌý
  • ensuring the implementation of the Aims of the AssociationÌý
  • maintaining and promoting the principles of the Association ConstitutionÌýÌý

Key tasks:

  • Chair NEC, Steering Group meetings and other meetings as appropriateÌý
  • Chair and address AGMÌý
  • Liaise with National Executive Officer through weekly contactÌý
  • Liaise with other members of Steering Group as requiredÌý
  • Act as official representative of 91ԭƬ at meetings with other agencies and attend relevant functionsÌý
  • Where possible, the President will attend a meeting in each Region/Nation, as agreed with the President ElectÌý
  • Lead the development of the Association and promote the priorities of its workÌý
  • Plan outline agendas and Association meetings with National Executive OfficerÌý
  • Be an ex-officio member of any working group.Ìý
  • Contribute the introductory article (800 words) to all the Association Magazine editionsÌý
  • To support the NEO with the day to running of the association in an advisory capacity in conjunction with other SG membersÌý
  • Regular and timely response to association related emailsÌý

Please note that as this is an elected post the holder is a fully participant member of the Steering Group and National Executive Council. Ìý

  • The Association runs smoothly and efficiently in a responsible and timely manner.Ìý
  • The Association develops, implements and communicates its strategic aimsÌýthrough the Development PlanÌý
  • Strategic priorities are identified, implemented and reviewed on an annual basis, to the national context.Ìý
  • The aims of the Association are upheld and actively promotedÌý

Responsible for staff/equipment:Ìý

Line Manage NEO – if determined that the President is the Line manager of the NEOÌýÌý

NB: any member of SG can be agreed to be the line manager based on relevant experience.Ìý

Reporting to…Steering Group.Ìý

  • All work is done in collaboration with other Steering Group and NEC members.Ìý
  • Major items are discussed and confirmed with other Steering Group members and ratified by the National Executive Council.ÌýÌý
  • The President may, however, respond independently on behalf of the Association but must always express the views of the Association which may not be those held personally.Ìý

Financial:

  • Normal 91ԭƬ expenses payable for SG/NEC attendance and agreed associated expenses.Ìý
  • Reimbursement available for supply cover arrangements by agreement with Steering GroupÌý

Recommended knowledge and experience:

  • QToD with significant practical experience in deaf educationÌý
  • 91ԭƬ memberÌý
  • Understanding of current issues and challenges in deaf education and for professionals linked to deaf educationÌý
  • Experience on NECÌý
  • Secure understanding of the way 91ԭƬ works and the roles and responsibilities within 91ԭƬÌý
  • Leadership experience or equivalent with relevant experience of Line Management where appropriate (only if Line Managing the NEO)Ìý
